Since 2012, the beers of the ‘Struise Brouwers’ feature the “Belgische Hop-Houblon Belge–Belgian Hops” logo. This quality label is only awarded to beers that are brewed with at least 50% Belgian hops.

In 2008, Ratebeer, the website of reference for beers and breweries worldwide, declared Struise to be the best brewers in the world.
We meet Carlo in his microbrewery, in a converted school in Oostvleteren. In this intimate setting, we discuss his passion for creative craft beers. He enjoys original flavours that break free from preconditioned beliefs. A philosophy he shares with his brewing-partner Urbain Coutteau and one that perfectly matches our quest for remarkable food designers.
In an informal setting we get to taste some of their newest creations. Carlo talks us about the camaraderie, the impatience to see his creations mature and share them with others. His story is one of craftsmanship with genuine passion but also one of being lucky to meet the right person at the right time.

Craft beers have carved out a niche for themselves in a food culture that Carlo also values. One in which you have respect for what you eat and drink, and for the products you buy. Enjoying a moment in good company, in a good ambience, and serving a beer the way it should be served. That is what our life-loving brewer finds important and what inspires him.
Small-scale production of authentic beers, brewed with respect for tradition, taste, aroma and balance: that is Carlo’s passion. Initially, it was a very informal affair, as they brewed traditional beers such as a blonde, an ale or a white beer. But when they brewed a strong ale with a Stout twist to it (named Pannepot), a whole new story started. They received a lot of appreciation from around the world, and finally also from Belgian beer lovers.
